There are many ways you can get involved at St George’s!
The Choir – Just come along on a Friday evening at 7.00 pm if you fancy singing. New voices are always welcome.
Musicians – If you can play a musical instrument, contact Sue on 01453 833526 to offer your services to play in St George’s on a Sunday morning.
Coffee – They say an army marches on its stomach! Perhaps a Church is driven by coffee and tea! A dedicated team offer refreshments on a Sunday after the 11.00 am service, on a Wednesday after the 10.00 am Communion and as well as other times during special occasions or events. If hospitality is your forte, we will find a place for you in the kitchen!
Readers, Intercessors and Servers – help on Sundays during our worship reading from the bible, leading us in our prayers and also serving at the altar. They are a loyal bunch, but always ready to welcome new blood into their ranks and share their gifts with the rest of us.
Sidesmen - This is an important role as it is the Sunday face of the church. The sidesmen greet parishioners and visitors, hand out hymn books, take the collection and tidy up following the service.
Publicity - Each week we publish a Newsletter for distribution in church. We have a team of editors who produce and print this on a rota basis. We are always looking for new people to play a part. For further information, please ring Clare Jayes on 01453 833254. Or, if you can help produce posters, flyers or even help with the website, please ring Sue on 01453 833256.
Flowers - The flower arrangers take turns arrange one of the two pedestals approximately four times a year or a Festival Window (i.e. at Easter, Pentecost, Harvest and Christmas). Come and visit St George’s especially at a Festival time to see how beautiful it looks.
Our co-ordinator is Jenny Evans, but if you would like to help out, in the first instance please contact the churchwardens. Contact details are on the 'Contact Us' page.
Mothers Union – There is a loyal band of women (and occasionally men!) who meet as the Mothers' Union on the 1st Wednesday of the month in the Parish Rooms. They enjoy a varied programme of events and speakers. Details can be found in the Calendar. For more information contact Mrs Patricia Jones tel: (01453) 832564.
Visiting and Befriending Scheme - At St George’s we recognise that ‘church’ is not just a building but is the people within it joining together to worship God. We aim to provide support to our church throughout the week, not just on Sundays, through our befriending scheme.
Each member of the church has a ‘befriender’. They keep in touch in several ways i.e., a visit or telephone call, meeting up in church or out for a cup of tea/coffee. If the member is ill, maybe shopping or a lift to the doctors or hospital and home communion can be arranged.
The ‘befrienders’ themselves meet monthly in the Parish room on the second Wednesday of each month at 2.00pm for a short time, to make sure that individuals are not missed and to discuss any needs that have arisen. This is all done in the strictest confidence within the group.
If you feel you would like to get involved, please contact Mrs Elaine Dutton (Co-ordinator) on 01453 834613
