Mothers' Union

Nailsworth Mothers' Union

Mothers’ Union is an international Christian charity that seeks to support families worldwide.

Its members are not all mothers or even all women, as there are many parents, men, widows, singles and grandparents involved in its work. It has been established for over 140 years.

We are a movement of over four million Christians in 84 countries worldwide.

We see ourselves as prayerful as well as practical. Mothers' Union emphasises the importance of prayer underpinning its work.
Each year, Mothers' Union organises a Wave of Prayer. Each diocese is given a set day to pray for other dioceses, and within each diocese each branch is given a specific time to pray. This gives to members a sense of unity in prayer for one another as the wave of prayer moves from branch to branch and from diocese to diocese.
We are also involved in local, national and international projects:

   * We feel strongly about Gender Violence and join with the annual initiative, in prayerfulness, education and by providing practical help. * * We fundraise and gather items requested by our local Women’s
Refuge.
   * We take part in the Stroud Christmas Tree Festival, raising the profile of Mothers’ Union in the community.
   * We recently enjoyed a very informative talk about Mission Aviation Fellowship and made a donation – it is a charity which is the world’s largest humanitarian air service.
   * We celebrate Mary Sumner day with a picnic, and have our own afternoon tea every August.
   * We knit hats for the premature baby unit in Gloucester and send Christmas cards to women in prison who have no families.

The program is varied, often fun and all are WELCOME.
We meet at 2pm every FIRST WEDNESDAY of the month in the Parish Rooms.
